Students Explore Costimator at Miller Welding and Machine Company

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA – January 1, 2013 – On October 3rd, MTI Systems' Costimator cost estimating software was one of many manufacturing tools and components that were shared to students during Miller Welding & Machine Company's "Manufacturing Day 2013" - open house.

"Manufacturing Day is all about supporting members of our region who want to get into manufacturing," said Eric Miller, the company's Vice President of Sales."

Every year, the Western Pennsylvania metals manufacturer hosts the event for young professionals and students who express an interest in choosing Manufacturing as a career path. This year's event was their most attended to date with 300 visitors visiting their facilities to get a crash course and hands-on-experience in a modern metals manufacturing setting.

"Manufacturing Day is all about supporting members of our region who want to get into manufacturing," said Eric Miller, the company's Vice President of Sales. "Our future and the future of the industry depend on our ability to court and inspire a new generation of manufacturers to want to enter the industry and this is our way of giving back."

As part of their attendee's experience, participants learned about many of the manufacturing processes and tools used by Miller Welding & Machine Company. For example, specific tools for fabricating, machining and finishing, as well as reference to some of the business related tools they use, such as Costimator cost estimating software.

Miller Welding and Machine Co. is a fascinating story of ingenuity and growth as well – having been started over 50 years ago in a garage and having evolved into an integrated single-source fabrication company supplying world class original equipment manufacturers. It currently supports between 450-500 employees but it remains as family friendly, owned and operated as it was when it was founded.

"The take away this year for MWM was an expressed interest from our guests to return in force in 2014," Miller commented. "And most importantly, an unmistakable positive impression that was left with our young guests, many of whom told us that manufacturing is something they wanted to start thinking about."
